Cheap Love, Janis (Book) (Laura Joplin) Price:
Music of all kinds is really important to people at the Gatehouse cafe. A couple a weeks back I spent some time with Mick and his brother checking out the Janis Joplin sites. I'll never forget the first time i played Janis Joplin's 'Summertime' - wow what a blast. Anyways - here's a little review of a new book by her sister Laura.

"Love, Janis"
".....this is a remarkable, no punches pulled view of Janis Joplin by her sister, Laura, with previously unpublished letters Joplin wrote home from hippie San Fransico to her Texas based family..."
From the flyleaf:
"here is the first new view of Janis Joplin in two decades. The author of this major biography is Jani'ss younger sister...who chanced upon a bundle of remarkable letters that Janis had written home...Janis truly came into her own in the fantastic, psychedelic, acid-soaked world of Haigh-Ashbury...(author) shows us not only the public Janis...she shows us the private Janis, struggling to perfect her art, searching for balance between love and stardom, battling to overcome her alcohol addiction and heroin use in a world where substance abuse was nearly universal...an astonishing series of letters by Janis herself...in them she conveys as no one else could, the wild ride froma awkward small-town teenager to rock-and-roll queen."
